Bad Bunny, the multi-Grammy Award winning Puerto Rican rapper-singer, has been announced as the headline performer for next year’s NFL Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The news was announced by the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation, five months ahead of the sporting mega event, which is due to take place on 8 February at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself," Bad Bunny said in a statement. "It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

Roc Nation founder Jay-Z said in a statement that what Bad Bunny has "done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honoured to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”

One of the world’s most streamed artists, Bad Bunny, 31, beat other rumoured acts like Taylor Swift and Metallica to the coveted gig, which has a long history of reflecting and influencing cultural trends. While artists don’t get paid for performing at the Halftime Show, it’s one of the most sought-after concerts in the industry, especially because of the exposure it provides.

Not that Mr. Bunny needs it. He has won three Grammys and 12 Latin Grammys, become a global ambassador for Latin music, starred in recent films such as Bullet Train, Caught Stealing and Happy Gilmore 2, and collaborated with top fashion houses. He'll also enter the Latin Grammys this year as the leading nominee with 12 nods, dethroning producer and songwriter Edgar Barrera.

His most recent album, 'DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS', has garnered universal acclaim this year and made it to Euronews Culture’s Best Albums of 2025... So Far list. We said: “While still rooted in the modern reggaetón which made the 31-year-old artist a global superstar, the album pushes far beyond expectations, weaving in salsa horns, bolero melodies, and the layered rhythms of traditional plena. (...) It’s an instant summer essential - joyous, infectious, and made to be played very loud.”

This year's Super Bowl Halftime Show was headlined by Kendrick Lamar, who made history as the first solo rapper to headline the performance slot.

He shattered records to become the most-watched Halftime Show of all time, with 133.5 million viewers - surpassing the audience for Michael Jackson's 1993 show.
