South Korean and Japanase leaders agree to step up cooperation

In their first summit on Saturday, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasized the need to move beyond historical disputes and focus on shared challenges alongside their mutual ally, the United States. The two leaders pledged cooperation on clean energy, artificial intelligence, demographic issues such as declining birth rates and aging populations, as well as disaster prevention. They also reaffirmed their commitment to work jointly, and with Washington, toward halting North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
