The man who allegedly drove his car into dozens of Liverpool football fans during a parade earlier this year has pleaded not guilty to the 31 charges he faces.

Paul Doyle is accused of injuring the supporters in May as they marked their club's record-equalling 20th league title.

The 53 year old faces charges including nine counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and one of dangerous driving.

Appearing via videolink from prison, Doyle appeared composed as he listened to the charges.

The allegations against him relate to 29 people aged between six months and 77 years who were hurt during the incident in Liverpool city centre on 26 May.

In mid-August, Doyle learned from prosecutors that he faced a further 24 charges, up from the original seven.

At least four people, including a child, were freed from beneath the car when it came to a stop.

Dozens of the victims had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Although nearby roads were shut to traffic, the car is thought to have followed an ambulance through a roadblock.

Merseyside Police have not given a motive for that attack, but have said it was not believed to be terrorism-related.

Doyle's trial at Liverpool Crown Court is expected to begin on 25 November.
