At least 14 people have died after a cyclone hit the French island of Mayotte on Saturday. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau warned that the final death toll could be higher.

Mayotte is France's poorest overseas territory. It is an archipelago north-west of Madagascar, where most of its 350,000 inhabitants live in tin shacks and other unstable structures that could not withstand the force of Cyclone Chido.

The storm is now heading for the coast of Mozambique.
