Putin accuses NATO of provoking Russia into crossing its 'red lines'
In his annual meeting with defense officials, the Russian President implied a figurative point of no return may be reached by escalating the conflict in Ukraine:
"The United States continues to pump the de facto illegitimate ruling regime in Kyiv with weapons and money, send mercenaries and military advisers, and thereby encourage further escalation of the conflict."
"They bring us to the red line", he added, "across which we can no longer retreat. We begin to respond, and immediately they frighten their population, in ancient times - with the Soviet, now with the Russian threat.
Putin also voiced his concerns over the developments made by the United States regarding medium and shorter range missiles.
He added that if the US were to cross this line, Moscow would lift its voluntary restrictions.
The Russian President also applauded Russian forces for capturing 189 settlements this year.
"Due to the professionalism and bravery of our soldiers, the outstanding efforts of defense industry workers, and the genuine support of our nation for the army and navy, Russian troops are holding a strategic initiative across the entire front line," Vladimir Putin claimed.
