Taylor Swift has already broken a Spotify record before the release of her new album

How do you break a record with your new album when it isn’t even out yet?

That seemingly impossible feat seems to be a walk in the park for Taylor Swift, whose upcoming album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ has already smashed a Spotify record – a little over a month before its release.

The pop superstar is due to release her 12th studio album on 3 October, following on from the record-breaking Eras Tour and last year’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.

Swift shared the news of her highly anticipated album last month during her appearance on the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by her now-fiancé, Travis Kelce.

Now, Spotify has announced that ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ has already broken a record: “On August 31st, 2025, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ became the most pre-saved album Countdown Page in Spotify history.”

In case you were wondering, the previous record was held by... drumroll... yep, it’s Taylor Swift, for ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ last year. Incidentally, she was crowned Spotify’s most-streamed artist last year too.

'The Tortured Poets Department' smashed two streaming records on Spotify, achieving 300 million plays in one day and one billion over five days. It also made Swift the first artist in history to secure the top 14 spots on the Billboard Hot 100.

During the podcast last month, Swift revealed that this year’s album will stand alone, with no bonus tracks.

“It's not like The Tortured Poets Department where I was like: ‘Here's a data dump of everything I thought or felt in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs.’ This is 12,” she said. “There's not a 13th, there's not a 14th, there's not other ones coming.”

In April 2024, Swift released ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ as a 16-track record, only to surprise-release an extended version just hours after the original album dropped. She received some criticism for the lengthy tracklist of the “anthology” edition of 'The Tortured Poets Department', which ran for 35 songs.

Swift most recently announced her engagement to Travis Kelce, which sent the internet into a frenzy, even had Donald Trump giving uncharacteristic praise, got many focusing on the ring and had us wondering what the most iconic rings in pop culture were.

Details of when the couple are expecting to get married have yet to be made public.
