A Nine Inch Nails photography exhibition coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the band’s legendary second album ‘The Downward Spiral’, is set to open in London next month.

‘The Downward Spiral Exhibition’ will feature images taken by documentary and feature film director / writer Jonathan Rach during the Trent Reznor-led band’s ‘Self Destruct’ tour between 1994 and 1996.

A description reads: “The exhibition includes several exclusive photos that had laid unseen for more than 25 years. Over 30 incredible images will be on display showcasing an array of both personal and pivotal moments for the band taken during the ‘Self Destruct’ world tour and supported by Nine Inch Nails.”

The collection also features photos of David Bowie and Lou Reed, alongside moments from Nine Inch Nails’ six-night run at the Hollywood Palladium in 2018.

On bringing his collection to London, Jonathan Rach said: “To be able to show this collection of photography after some 25 years and see how fans connected to them has been such a rewarding and unexpected gift. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and showing some of the new images I’ve recently found and talking about these captured moments in music history as part of the celebration in London.“

Stephen Dallimore, Behind The Gallery’s Creative Director, said: “It’s extremely exciting to be able to bring this unique collection to London, as the feedback from the Australian show was something special and it’s great for the UK Nine Inch Nails community to get to experience it.”

He added: “This is an insight into a pivotal moment in the band’s career and Jonathan was there to capture all of it, before the days of social media. It’ll be a special event for the fans and collectors, this is not to be missed!”

Fans will be able to buy limited edition numbered prints signed by the photographer.

In our Album Anniversaries series, we wrote in March – when ‘The Downward Spiral’ turned 30 - that the band’s sophomore album is “the perfect fusion of metal and synthpop, a semi-autobiographical record from Reznor, one that swallows you whole” and “one of the rawest rock masterstrokes ever.” Check out our full anniversary review.

In other news, Disney announced that Nine Inch Nails will providing the score for the 2025 filmTron: Ares, the sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy. It marks the first time that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross compose a soundtrack under the band name Nine Inch Nails – as opposed to their own names.

‘The Downward Spiral Exhibition’ takes place at 2 Hoxton Street in London between 16-20 October and follows the first showing of this “iconic era-defining photography” in Australia earlier this year. Rach will be in London for the exhibition for an artist talk on 19 October.
