French PM meets opposition parties ahead of confidence vote

Prime Minister François Bayrou is meeting with France's political parties in an effort to prevent the collapse of his government ahead of a confidence vote next week. Opposition leaders have declared their intention to defeat the minority government in the September 8 vote, which Bayrou called unexpectedly last week as he seeks to implement unpopular budget cuts for 2026.
