Syria’s minister of defense announced a ceasefire on Tuesday following overnight clashes between security forces and Kurdish fighters in Aleppo’s northern neighborhoods. Murhaf Abu Qasra stated that he met with Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, in Damascus, where they agreed on a comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts in northern and northeastern Syria, with immediate implementation. The violence erupted amid rising tensions between the Damascus government and Kurdish authorities, after the Syrian Democratic Forces reportedly attacked Internal Security Forces checkpoints on Monday evening, resulting in one death and four injuries, according to the state-run news agency SANA.
