Abkhazia's president resigned on Tuesday after reaching an agreement with demonstrators who stormed parliament last week over a proposed investment deal with Russia. The breakaway Georgian republic, recognised by most of the world as Georgian territory, has been under Russian control since Moscow's brief 2008 war with Tbilisi.
