Authorities in Jamaica are assessing the damage from Hurricane Melissa after it tore through the island nation on October 28 as the fifth most intense Atlantic hurricane on record by pressure, and the strongest to make landfall since 2019. Jamaica’s education minister said that 77% of the island was without power but that the water systems weren't greatly affected.
