Four civilians and one soldier were killed in an overnight exchange of fire at one of the key Pakistan-Afghanistan border crossings, an Afghan official said on Saturday. Both sides blamed each other despite a truce after deadly clashes in October. Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated since the Taliban took power in 2021, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of harbouring militants and the border remaining largely closed.
