Iran sentences awardwinning director Jafar Panahi 'in abstentia' to one year in prison

Iran has sentenced Palme d'Or-winning filmmaker Jafar Panahi in absentia to one year in prison and imposed a two-year travel ban for alleged “propaganda activities,” his lawyer said on Monday. The ruling also bars him from joining political or social groups, and his legal team plans to appeal.
