2024 Dushanbe Junior WC Day 1: The future of Judo
After the success of its Judo Grand Prix, the capital city of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, now hosts the Junior World Championships in the Kasri Tennis Arena!
China’s Hui Xinran cleverly overcame Japan’s Yoshino Sachiyo with a sacrifice technique to claim the title at -48kg.
Mr Vladimir Barta, IJF Head Sport Director presented the medals.
“My goal is to become the Olympic champion, so I’ll take it step by step and continue to give my best in every competition. Some competitions I might win, and some I might lose, but I’m not focused on that. I’ll keep pushing towards my dream and making it a reality. When I came to Tajikistan, I was touched by how warmly the people welcomed me. I really like Tajikistan, the accommodation, and everything here. It’s all been wonderful," said Hui Xinran.
A supremely confident Fukuda Yamato, the defending junior world champion from 2023, wasted no time, throwing and then pinning 16 year old Tajik Loiq Kudbudinov to become a double junior world champion at - 60kg.
Mr Ismoil Mahmadzoir Tajikistan Judo Federation President awarded the medals.
“The food is very good in Tajikistan and we are very honoured to take part at such a great event and venue. I feel very happy that we were able to compete here," said Yamato.
Oi Iroha defeated her teammate Nosho Senju in the -52kg final.
Mr Florin Daniel Lascau, IJF Head Referee Director gave her the gold.
Fukuchi Shuntaro also faced a teammate in the final, and when Kentoku Kairi was disqualified for illegally using his head to complete a throwing technique, Fukuchi claimed -66kg glory.
Mr Qurbonali Safarzoda, main sponsor of the Dushanbe Junior World Championships handed out the medals.
The Tajik fans were treated to a special chance to meet one of their heroes, Paris Olympic bronze medalist in Judo Somon Makhmadbekov. Autographs, pictures and memories that will last a lifetime.
Also unforgettable was the performance of the Tajik judoka on day 1, the highlight of which was the superb silver medal brought home by Loiq Kudbudinov, who thrilled his home crowd all day.
