A Brussels court on Thursday found Belgian jihadist Sammy Djedou – presumed killed in a 2016 air strike – guilty of genocide against Iraq’s Yazidis. Djedou, an Islamic State fighter reported dead in Raqqa, was tried in absentia after Belgium received no formal confirmation of his death in its first Yazidi-related mass-crimes case.
