Trump orders investigation into alleged Jeffrey Epstein ties to Bill Clinton and major banks
US President Donald Trump has ordered the Justice Department to investigate disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s ties with several major banks and Democrat lawmakers, including former President Bill Clinton, whose links came to light in recent emails released by Congress.
The US House of Representative’s Oversight Committee released on Wednesday emails belonging to Jeffrey Epstein’s personal addresses, revealing his conversations with many prominent entrepreneurs, lawmakers and influencers in the US and abroad.
Trump accused the Democratic party of attempting to push the “Epstein hoax again” to “deflect from all their bad policies and losses, especially the SHUTDOWN EMBARRASSMENT”.
He accused the party of being in “total disarray” and once again reiterated that Epstein, was a Democrat supporter himself.
“Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s problem, not the Republican’s problem!” he wrote on Friday.
“Ask Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Larry Summers about Epstein, they know all about him, don’t waste your time with Trump. I have a Country to run!”
In a separate post, he announced that he has instructed US Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Epstein’s ties with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, who served as Treasury Secretary under Clinton, and Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn and prominent Democrat donor.
“I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them, and him.” said Trump.
“This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats. Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his “Island.” Stay tuned!!!”
Clinton has strongly denied any wrongdoing or knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. J.P. Morgan Chase, the US’ largest bank, has also taken a similar path, announcing their regret for having had any association with the disgraced former financier.
"We regret any association we had with the man, but did not help him commit his heinous acts," said Patricia Wexler, J.P. Morgan Chase Spokesperson. "(We) ended our relationship with him years before his arrest on sex-trafficking charges,” she added.
In quick response, Bondi took to her X page to announce that she had appointed Southern District of New York US Attorney Jay Clayton to oversee the probe Trump has ordered.
“Clayton is one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country, and I’ve asked him to take the lead,” wrote Bondi.
“As with all matters, the Department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people.”
The probe comes just one week ahead of a House of Representatives – the lower chambre of US Congress – vote on whether the Justice Department should release all its files in connection with Epstein, who died by suicide in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial.
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene urged Trump on Friday to ensure that House Republicans vote in favour of releasing the documents. She noted that failure to do so would be a “huge miscalculation” on the US president’s part.
Greene, along with four other House Republicans, signed a discharge petition, which has garnered 218 signatures, calling for the release of all Epstein files.
