A Latvian man has been arrested in Austria after threatening to take people hostage on a train travelling from Vienna to Innsbruck, police said.

The 31-year-old threatened several train passengers with violence at 1 pm on Monday, and said he would take hostages if police came on board, authorities said.

The suspect was arrested when the train stopped in Salzburg's main station.

He became aggressive and one officer was injured while the arrest was made, local media reported.

A video shared on X by the NEXTA news outlet shows a man being apprehended at the station and carried away by several police officers.

The footage could not be independently verified by Euronews.

The suspect was not armed and his motives remain unclear, the police said.

The incident happened just two days after a man in the UK wounded 11 people in a mass stabbing attack on a train.

The 32-year-old suspect has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder.
