Family of four among nine killed in latest Russian attacks on Ukraine

A couple and their two children were killed in a Russian drone strike on Ukraine's Sumy on Tuesday, according to the regional governor.

The drone hit a residential building in the village of Chernechchyna, said Governor Oleh Hryhorov, in what he called a "targeted strike".

The bodies of two adults and their two children aged 6 and 4 were pulled from the rubble of their home by rescue workers, he added.

Another 60-year-old was also killed elsewhere in Sumy, in the Shalyginsk community, according to the Regional Military Administration.

In the last 24 hours, at least nine civilians were killed and 15 others injured across Ukraine, according to authorities.

Ukraine's Air Force stated that 46 out of 65 drones launched from Russia overnight were intercepted by its air defences.

In Donetsk, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported that a total of three people were killed and another eight were injured in Russian strikes on Monday. Another person was also killed in Kherson, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

Daily Russian strikes on Ukraine continue as US-led efforts to end the war have made no progress. The Trump administration has expressed growing impatience with Moscow over its refusal to engage in bilateral or trilateral peace talks.

This weekend, Washington said it would consider selling Tomahawk missiles to European nations to send to Ukraine, and also announced it would authorise the use of long-range strikes into Russia.

On Monday, Russia called up 135,000 men aged 18 to 30 for compulsory military service, the biggest autumn conscription since 2016.
