Torrential rain and flooding in Albania have killed a 75-year-old in the eastern Korça region.

The victim was swept away by water from a flooded stream and it took several hours and receding water levels before the body was recovered.

Hundreds of people in southern and southeastern Albania have been evacuated from their homes in the past 24 hours due to flooding.

Roads, bridges and other infrastructure have suffered severe damage and hundreds of acres of farmland are submerged.

Authorities have expressed concern as more rain and storms are forecast in coming days.

Greece hit by widespread damage

In Greece, severe weather continues to cause serious problems, particularly in Corfu and Epirus.

Villagers are stranded, roads have been destroyed and electricity and water supply infrastructure is damaged.

Fears of landslides remain high, while meteorologists are forecasting a new wave of severe weather in the next 24 hours.

Several municipalities have been placed under a state of emergency.

In Ioannina, rainfall continues and residents hope the phenomena of previous days will not repeat, according to ertnews. In the Pedini area, lakes have formed, a common occurrence during periods of heavy rainfall.

Although conditions have improved, water remains in fields creating pond-like scenes. The Egnatia parallel road flooded on Saturday but has since been cleared.

Temperatures have dropped significantly in Ioannina, and the first snow has appeared in the surrounding mountains. Severe weather persists across the city and the Epirus region.

In Filippiada, a rescue operation was conducted to save a horse trapped in mud and flooded fields. The Preveza Special Rescue Multi-Mission Team located and rescued the animal.

In Tzoumerka and Agnada, fire crews assisted residents in need, including transporting medical equipment such as an oxygen tank to a patient requiring immediate care. Four villages in the area remain without electricity and the road network has been damaged.

The road from Paleochori to Syrrako-Kalarrytes is closed due to subsidence, with crossings diverted through Pramantos.

In Kleissoura village in Ziros municipality, crews are working to remove debris from a heavy torrent.

In Arta, approximately 15 houses in Skupa and Dafnoti remain blocked and efforts are under way to evacuate residents, according to Arta mayor Christos Siafakas. Deputy Governor of Arta Vasilis Psathas has requested state assistance for damage restoration.

The area faces serious problems due to severe weather, including damaged or blocked roads and issues with electricity and water supplies.

Forecasts indicate better weather is expected on Monday, but conditions are expected to deteriorate again from Tuesday with new rainfall forecast.
