An Australian runner has made history at the Antarctic Ice Marathon, becoming the first woman to win the race in its 20-year history.
Catherine Drysdale, a 35-year-old portfolio manager from Sydney, claimed the 2025 title in 3:48:43, finishing ahead of Russia's Denis Nazarov and Belgium's Rune Buyl.
The race took place on mainland Antarctica, where athletes from 20 countries gathered at Union Glacier, around 600 miles from the South Pole. The 42.2-kilometre course unfolded in temperatures near minus 15 degrees Celsius, with strong winds and compacted snow underfoot.
