007 casting race heats up as Callum Turner is new favourite for next James Bond

The hunt for the next James Bond continues, and a new name has become the bookies favourite to take over the role of 007.

Callum Turner, who is best known for starring in the 2020 Jane Austen adaptation Emma, the Harry Potter spin-off series Fantastic Beasts, George Clooney’s The Boys in the Boat and the acclaimed miniseries Masters of the Air, is currently leading the pack.

According to UK bookmaker Coral and as reported in The Telegraph, Turner is the “hot favourite” and now has 7-4 odds of being the next Bond, ahead of other speculated contenders Aaron Taylor-Johnson (3-1) and Henry Cavill (6-1).

The overnight surge for Turner could be based on insider intel, or it could just be that the 35-year-old actor is the latest in a long line of potential actors considered for one of the most coveted roles in cinema.

The fact that Turner was seen on holiday with his fiancée, singer Dua Lipa, at Oracabessa Bay, Jamaica – more specifically Goldeneye, the former estate of author Ian Fleming – could be behind the sudden odds shift.

Until Bond 26 director Denis Villeneuve wraps Dune: Part Three – at which time casting can officially begin – casting speculation will continue to grow.

It has been confirmed that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script, and it was reported in September that Amazon are looking for a “fresh face” to succeed Daniel Craig after he bowed out of the role following No Time To Die (2021).

Production on the next James Bond film is expected to kick off in 2027, with a release planned for 2028. It will be the first Bond movie made since Amazon gained full control of the franchise.
