The Kossuth and Attila József Prize-winning writer, playwright and essayist Péter Nádas was one of the most significant figures in contemporary Hungarian and European prose.

Born in Budapest in 1942, he began his career as a photojournalist and reporter, later gaining international renown with his novels, short stories and essays.

His works have been translated into numerous languages and his writing is distinguished by an exceptionally precise examination of personal memory, history, the body and human relationships.

His most important works include "Egy családregény vége"("The End of a Family Story"), "Emlékiratok könyve" ("A Book of Memories"), the monumental "Párhuzamos történetek" ("Parallel Stories"), as well as "Világló részletek" ("Shimmering Details - Volumes 1 and 2"), which can be read both as a memoir and as a historical reckoning.

Péter Nádas was recognised not only in Hungary but especially in Germany and in the international literary world as one of the defining authors of his era.
