Russia launches nearly 500 drones and missiles on Ukraine in latest overnight attack

Russia has launched nearly 500 drones and missiles on Ukraine overnight on Friday, in another nightly attack on cities and towns across the country.

In Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, local authorities reported more than 20 people being pulled out by rescue crews from a 17-storey apartment building in flames following a Russian attack.

The strikes damaged residential buildings across several districts. In Pechersk, drone debris hit an apartment block, sparking a fire.

In Holosiivskyi and other areas, windows were shattered, facades damaged, and several cars set ablaze. According to Mayor Vitalii Klychko, 12 people were injured.

A partial blackout and water disruptions in several districts of Kyiv were reported.

In the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, a seven-year-old boy was killed by a Russian strike, according to military personnel, while his parents were injured.

A relative recounted that the father had just “returned from captivity in March after being held for three years.”

Reports from City Council Secretary Regina Kharchenko say that the city was under attack for over six hours — first struck with eight Shahed kamikaze drones, and later by guided aerial bombs and cruise missiles.

The settlement of Kushuhum, in the Zaporizhzhia region, also suffered from shelling, as homes, shops, and municipal equipment were damaged, according to local media.

A total of 465 drones, including kamikaze drones, and 32 missiles, including ballistic missiles, were fired across the country overnight, according to Ukraine's Armed Forces.
