While much of the attention on Tuesday's election is on the presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, they also are sizing up who will represent them in Congress.
The outcome of these races will determine the balance of power in Congress, affecting the legislative agenda, including major issues such as healthcare, economic policy, climate action, and immigration reform.
Currently, Democrats hold a slim majority in the Senate, while Republicans have a slight edge in the House. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 Senate seats are up for grabs.
Who will take control of the US House? Euronews will provide live results on election night, helping you track each race as results come in.
Most of the closely contested House campaigns are being waged beyond the presidential swing states, including in New York and California.
If the two chambers do flip party control, as is possible, it would be rare.
Records show that if Democrats take the House and Republicans take the Senate, it would be the first time that the chambers of Congress have both flipped to opposing political parties.
