Love cruises? You can now map out your real-time journeys on a 3D globe with this app

A new app now allows cruise passengers to track their journeys in real-time, as well as order a sailing souvenir of their trip.
The Cruise Global app lets travellers build a free collection of digital maps of their own ocean journeys, which can be viewed on a 3D globe.
Passengers can also buy printed maps and physical cruise cards as mementos of specific journeys.
A desktop version of the app was launched in February this year, with the mobile app now building on this. At the moment, the software has 60,000 users who have recorded more than 300,000 journeys.
The Cruise Global website states, “How well do you remember your first cruise? What about your 15th or your 50th? When we built The Cruise Maps, we kept hearing how people were logging their cruises in notebooks or in Microsoft Excel. We wanted a better way.”
Track your cruise details in real-time
The app is available on both Android devices and iPhones, and has all the existing features of the desktop version, along with a fresh live cruise tracking option.
Travellers can see cruises in a satellite view, with the new feature analysing Automatic Identification System (AIS) satellite data to enable this.
This lets them track their favourite cruise ships with an in-depth view of the specific route taken, as well as individual ship statistics such as speed, number of passengers and anticipated route. Users can also see the current location of a ship.
Passengers can also snag deals for upcoming cruises on their preferred ship with the app, while logging every port and kilometre too, for a more immersive and memorable journey. The app allows actual routes to be replayed and viewed as videos, along with satellite views of the port visited, for more shareable details.
“The launch of our new mobile app marks a huge milestone for The Cruise Globe. We started this as a passion project for cruise fans and we’ve now grown it into a community of over 60,000 users in just six months, and we’re just getting started,” Matthew Jones, co-founder of The Cruise Globe, said as reported by Cruise Critic.
“We are delighted that we are now putting the exact routes of their entire cruise history right in their pocket. The app form is perfect for easily sharing past cruises with friends and family or a great storytelling tool to use onboard when chatting with other guests.”
Travellers can sign up with their email for free, with details like cruise ship name, date of sailing and departure port also required to track their journey.
